Simply speaking ordinary light, from the sun for example, is usually referred to as randomly polarized or unpolarized. The light wave which reflects off of a surface such as pavement, water, snow or cars produces reflections commonly known as "glare". To filter out the glare a polarizer is used such as the lenses found in high quality sunglasses, electronic LCDs, ski goggles, camera filters, etc. The PolaVisor® lens is manufactured with the same polarized material - a result of the laminating process that fuses together three separated layers of unique lens material.

Some removable visors are not made to be used as "see-through" visors, but are designed as "an extension of existing car visors". Lenses of other removable "see-through" visors are made only with one single piece of colored or darkened plastic. They are inefficient and most are poorly designed. They reduce the level of sunlight making viewed objects darker - actually decreasing visibility. Lenses made with colored plastics only are not polarized, thus they reduce very little glare.
